Bronze. 47.5mm. 44.8g. According to the Charlton reference on association medals, "The Royal Canadian Humane Association was founded in 1894 by Adam Brown of Hamilton, Ontario. It was established in order to recognize deeds of heroism, and to act as 'a central organization to band together the scores of local humane associations functioning independently in Canadian town and cities.'" The medals in this size were issued from 1894 to about 1910. It was then replaced with smaller medals.

The present example is inscribed on the reverse: AWARDED / TO / ERNEST BRISEBOIS / FOR RESCUE OF ALLAN, J.B. & HENRI LUCAS / OTTOWA RIVER / MAY, 1919." A description of the event was published in the May 5, 1919 issue of Le Canada newspaper in Montreal. That account is included in one of the images above.
