Sold Out

Bronze. 51 mm. 42.2 grams. Montreal’s École des Hautes Études Commerciales was founded on March 14, 1907 as the first university-level business school in Canada and one of the first in North America. Today, it is regarded among the best business schools in the country. In 2010, the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada recognized HEC Montreal for its national significance.

This award medal appears to be an early-to-mid 20th century product, although the reverse die was clearly produced much earlier and shows signs age with rim crumbling, cracks, and lapping. Bronze-gold surfaces feature a textured, sandblast finish. The recipient’s name, A. GAUTHIER, is engraved on the reverse. No date is present.

A similar example appeared in Torex Sale #6 (Jeffrey Hoare Auctions, 2/1988), lot 424. It was struck in 10k gold and awarded to B. ROBILLARD in 1921-22. The cataloguer noted that these medals were struck by Caron Frères. That piece realized $480.

A box is included. It may or may not be original.
